Love organic but can't afford it? Do this to save money while losing weight!

We'd all love to eat all organic, all the time, right? But let's face it, organic can be expensive!
If you can't afford to buy everything organic, you can make some small steps in the right direction that will go far to improve your health and help you to lose weight by lessening the toxic load on your liver and other organs.

A. The least expensive option is to grow your own food from organic seeds, or organic starter plants. Make sure you don't use chemical fertilizers or soil, or you are defeating the purpose!

B. No time or interest in gardening? Your next option is to buy the most important organic foods: The following list is based on information and studies by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Consumer Reports, and the Environmental Working Group.

1.Nectarines – 97.3% of nectarines sampled were found to contain pesticides.

2.Celery – 94.5% of celery sampled were found to contain pesticides.

3.Pears – 94.4% of pears sampled were found to contain pesticides.

4.Peaches – 93.7% of peaches sampled were found to contain pesticides.

5.Apples – 91% of apples sampled were found to contain pesticides.

6.Cherries – 91% of cherries sampled were found to contain pesticides.

7.Strawberries – 90% of strawberries sampled were found to contain pesticides.

8.Imported Grapes – 86% of imported grapes (i.e. Chile) sampled were found to contain pesticides.

9.Spinach – 83.4% of spinach sampled were found to contain pesticides.

10.Potatoes – 79.3% of potatoes sampled were found to contain pesticides.

11.Bell Peppers – 68% of bell peppers sampled were found to contain pesticides.

12.Red Raspberries – 59% of red raspberries sampled were found to contain pesticides.

B. Save your money and skip the organic on these foods found to contain the least amount of pesticides. Notice that many of these have thick, inedible skins which protect the fruit.

•Asparagus

•Avocados

•Bananas

•Broccoli

•Cauliflower

•Corn (However, almost all corn is genetically modified)

•Kiwi

•Mangoes

•Onions

•Papaya

•Pineapples

•Sweet Peas

C. Dairy products like cheese, ice cream, sour cream, and yogurt contain concentrated levels of milk, and therefore pesticides and added hormones. Buy organic, and choose full-fat varieties for greater flavor. You will eat less, feel more satisfied, and consumer fewer over-all calories than if you eat a low-fat version! If you can find raw cheese, even better, as the fat actually still contains enzymes that enable your body to breakdown the fat in digestion which can actually help you lose weight!

Be well and eat healthy! Oh, and don't worry, I promised to post about what worked to lose weight with a sluggish thyroid and 45 year old metabolism! Current tally in 7 weeks: down 16 lbs.
