White bread is making you fat.

We all know white bread is devoid of nutritional value, and if you didn't know that, you do now. Is it also a major contributor to obesity? Dr. Mercola says, "Yes."

Love organic but can't afford it? Do this to save money while losing weight!

We'd all love to eat all organic, all the time, right? But let's face it, organic can be expensive!
If you can't afford to buy everything organic, you can make some small steps in the right direction that will go far to improve your health and help you to lose weight by lessening the toxic load on your liver and other organs.

A. The least expensive option is to grow your own food from organic seeds, or organic starter plants. Make sure you don't use chemical fertilizers or soil, or you are defeating the purpose!

B. No time or interest in gardening? Your next option is to buy the most important organic foods: The following list is based on information and studies by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Consumer Reports, and the Environmental Working Group.

1.Nectarines – 97.3% of nectarines sampled were found to contain pesticides.

2.Celery – 94.5% of celery sampled were found to contain pesticides.

3.Pears – 94.4% of pears sampled were found to contain pesticides.

4.Peaches – 93.7% of peaches sampled were found to contain pesticides.

5.Apples – 91% of apples sampled were found to contain pesticides.

6.Cherries – 91% of cherries sampled were found to contain pesticides.

7.Strawberries – 90% of strawberries sampled were found to contain pesticides.

8.Imported Grapes – 86% of imported grapes (i.e. Chile) sampled were found to contain pesticides.

9.Spinach – 83.4% of spinach sampled were found to contain pesticides.

10.Potatoes – 79.3% of potatoes sampled were found to contain pesticides.

11.Bell Peppers – 68% of bell peppers sampled were found to contain pesticides.

12.Red Raspberries – 59% of red raspberries sampled were found to contain pesticides.

B. Save your money and skip the organic on these foods found to contain the least amount of pesticides. Notice that many of these have thick, inedible skins which protect the fruit.

•Asparagus

•Avocados

•Bananas

•Broccoli

•Cauliflower

•Corn (However, almost all corn is genetically modified)

•Kiwi

•Mangoes

•Onions

•Papaya

•Pineapples

•Sweet Peas

C. Dairy products like cheese, ice cream, sour cream, and yogurt contain concentrated levels of milk, and therefore pesticides and added hormones. Buy organic, and choose full-fat varieties for greater flavor. You will eat less, feel more satisfied, and consumer fewer over-all calories than if you eat a low-fat version! If you can find raw cheese, even better, as the fat actually still contains enzymes that enable your body to breakdown the fat in digestion which can actually help you lose weight!

Be well and eat healthy! Oh, and don't worry, I promised to post about what worked to lose weight with a sluggish thyroid and 45 year old metabolism! Current tally in 7 weeks: down 16 lbs.

Sensa: does it work?

Those of you who know me, know I am always interested in new ways to lose weight and get in (or stay in) shape. I recently tried Sensa, the product you sprinkle on your food to reduce your appetite and therefore, lose weight. My results? Not promising.
While it did make me think more about how much, and what, I was eating, and it did seem to reduce my appetite, somehow I didn't lose any weight. At all.

I called up the company to cancel and they were kind enough to extend my trial for another month . . . twice. Guess what? Not one pound.

Now I am in my forties, (which means the old metabolism keeps slooowwwing dooowwwn) and my metabolism has plateaued yet again, probably due to a low thyroid (but not low enough to be out of the normal range, so I am told) but Sensa, sadly, fell short for me. Others have had remarkable success and if you feel eating too large of portions is your problem, Sensa just might help you lose weight. You can try it for one month here. The cost is about $32 so pretty cheap to try out.

Now, I will tell you what did help me lose weight in my next posting!
